LEGO - Icons Land Rover Classic Defender 90 | Set 10317

The Land Rover Classic Defender 90 was my first LEGO system vehicle, after a series of competitor-vehicles before. In fact, the set is conceptually remarkably similar to CaDA’s SUZUKI JIMNY. Although it cannot be motorized, it does have Technic built in, with working steering and decent suspension.

Just like the CaDA, we have clever modularity that allows for various combinations, with more or less expedition charm.

Personally, I find it unfortunate that LEGO chose the Land Rover 90 and not the 110, but that is a matter of taste. The shapes are otherwise well designed, and the Sand Green color has its charm. There are a few stickers in the set, but they can be ignored.

The quality of the pieces was good, although I wish LEGO would protect the large windshield better, like they did with the Landspeeder.

Unfortunately, the vehicle is in LEGO’s new price range. The similarly sized Ghostbusters™ ECTO-1 started at 200 Euros. That would be an appropriate price for both vehicles also in 2023.
