With the Bismarck Cobi has released a new version of the Tirpitz model from last year. This is good news, as the Tirpitz is Cobi’s best battleship to date. On the other hand, one might wonder why they didn’t simply release another 2-in-1 set, like they did with Pennsylvania and Iowa.
The reason, I believe, has to do with the unusual paint scheme of the Tirpitz, which wouldn’t have matched the Bismarck. That’s also the strength of this model: it looks so different, even though the two models are almost identical otherwise. With the red aircraft markings on the turrets, it stands out from all previous Bismarck models as well.
So, everything positive I said about the Tirpitz still applies here, just in a more Classic Battleship paint job. The Bismarck also has the amazing engine room, the spectacular level of detail with over 2900 pieces, the fine building techniques, still no stickers, and again over fifty printed pieces. Like Tirpitz I would have wished that the interior went beyond the engine room.
The Bismarck was a German World War II battleship commissioned on August 24, 1940. It was the largest Kriegsmarine ship next to its twin "Tirpitz". On September 28, 1940, Bismarck made her maiden voyage. She was sunk on May 27, 1941, during a naval battle. The special EXECUTIVE EDITION of the famous battleship Bismarck has been expanded with a figure of a German captain in a distinctive uniform. In addition, part of the deck can be removed to see the detailed design of the engines. The set also includes two black plates containing the name of the ship, scale and basic technical data. The plates can be attached to the display block stand. The all-new Bismarck model created by COBI was produced in a scale of 1:300. It consists of 2933 elements and is 86.5 cm long. The latest edition of Bismarck is a ship designed completely from scratch. It contains over 900 more bricks compared to older editions. It faithfully reflects the proportions of the historical ship and preserves all its essential elements, including the original camouflage. The design depicts the so-called "Baltic paint scheme", i.e., camouflage containing black and white stripes and red tops of artillery towers. Such colors were used during training in the Baltic Sea. Numerous blocks feature high-quality, abrasion-resistant prints! The model has numerous movable parts such as propellers, rudders, rotating turrets and gun barrels that can be raised and lowered. The model is huge, has great display value and we especially recommend it to enthusiasts of naval history and building block collectors. It does not require gluing or painting because its entire body and all elements consist of COBI construction blocks.
