Opinion

Cobi got many things right with the Bell-Boeing™ V-22 Osprey. I like the proportions, the brilliant cold-white color of the First Flight Edition, and the included stand as well. It’s also impressive that they took the time to accurately represent the different orientations of the transverse rotors, showing once again Cobi’s commitment to an accurate model design.

What I didn’t like were the bulky ailerons and the black Tiles of the stand, which I would have preferred to be of higher quality. To many scratches for my taste.

Whether you like the Cobi typical gaps between the pieces in combination with the white pieces of the First Flight Edition is a matter of personal taste.

Undeniable is, however, that Cobi has once again put an excellent building experience into the box. Tons of SNOT (Studs Not On Top) technique combined with a high-quality instruction manual is still a difficult package to beat. Few sets can match the building experience of Cobi products.

Manufacturer Product Description

On March 19, 1989, over 30 years ago, a new chapter in the history of aviation began. An unusual machine - a prototype tiltrotor - soared into the sky for the first time, a fascinating and futuristic combination of a helicopter and an airplane. The tiltrotor known as the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey was the first multi-role short take-off and landing aircraft. It owes its extraordinary properties to the rotating drive system. Engine nacelles with rotors with a diameter of 12 meters can rotate during flight. Thanks to this solution, the machine can take off and land like a helicopter, and after changing the position of the engines, it goes to horizontal flight. Turning the propulsion nacelles by 45 degrees enables both short take-off and landing, similar to STOL aircraft. The Osprey was jointly developed by Bell Helicopter Textron, which produces wings, engine nacelles with Rolls-Royce engines, rotors, propulsion system, tail control surfaces and loading ramp, and the Boeing Company, which produces fuselage, cockpit, avionics and controls. The Osprey manufacturing company is called Bell-Boeing. Due to its extraordinary properties, the V-22 Osprey found its way into the equipment of the United States Marine Corps, United States Navy and other services, with the only exception being the US Army. The COBI model of the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey was released under the license of the American manufacturer of combat helicopters, Bell Helicopter Textron. Developed in 1:48 scale to match the rest of the Armed Forces collection, the model consists of 1136 elements and includes two figures depicting the first test pilots in distinctive uniforms. The length of the model is 390 mm, the width is 500 mm! Completely new elements have been developed for the set, which make our model even better! Numerous detailed prints capture the look of the signature test paint. The most important functionalities of the model are the drive nacelles, which can be set in different positions, rotating rotor blades, opening cabin doors with stairs, access to the cockpit and the possibility of placing figures there, and an opening rear loading hatch. The whole set is complemented by a black reinforced block base with double supports and a black plate with the name of the set and the Bell logo. This amazing tiltrotor/rotator is the perfect set for collectors and fans of military, aviation and history. Beautiful historical painting and an attractive way of display makes the model look really impressive!
