    Opinion

The Gneisenau was commissioned in 1938, before its sister ship Scharnhorst. Cobi had already released a set for the latter. It’s not unusual for Cobi to release models of sister ships as updated versions like here.

The Gneisenau is also well done and comes with the yellow Atlantic aviation identification. That provides a nice contrast to the recently released Bismarck with its red identification.

I particularly liked its sleek lines, as well as the use of SNOT (Studs Not On Top) technique on the deck, which gives a plank-like appearance. This is not even remotely to scale, but still looks nice and makes building enjoyable.

The details, building techniques, part quality, and instructions - both digital and printed - are all in excellent Cobi quality. Although I don’t like the feel of Cobi pieces as much as LEGO, the variety, especially when it comes to Slopes, is always a lot of fun.

Overall, another great ship from Cobi, of course without stickers, but with more than 30 prints.

Both Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were a new type of German battleship. They were characterized by greater size, speed and more powerful weapons. They were created in response to the expansion of the navy in France. Gneisenau took part in many combat operations, including the famous Operation Berlin in 1941, where it proved to be very effective. It was sunk on March 28, 1945 in Gdynia in order to block the port.
