Opinion
With the
Eldorado Fortress, LEGO has released another nostalgic product from the pirate sets of the late 80s, following the great success of the
Barracuda Bay. The set beautifully showcases how LEGO has evolved over the past 30 years. Compared to the
Eldorado Fortress from 1989, the packaging contains over five times more parts. Instead of a baseplate and numerous panels, everything is built to modern standards, including SNOT (Studs Not On Top).
The LEGO team has done a really good job with this. Everything feels very high-quality and well thought out. Many small details and clever building techniques make the assembly enjoyable. As is typical for LEGO, everything is easy to build and the result is very sturdy. Unlike the
Lion Knights' Castle, there are no shortcuts with huge slopes.
The minifigures are a nice reissue of the imperial figures from the 80s. The parts can also be easily purchased in the ★¹LEGO US - Pick a Brick service. The small ship is a nice addition, but it is not completely to scale with the fortress. The
Pirate Ship fits better with it.
