LEGO - Star Wars™ UCS Republic Gunship | Set 75309

The UCS Republic Gunship is, alongside the Venator class, my favorite ship in the Star Wars universe. Therefore, I was really looking forward to the new LEGO UCS set. Unfortunately, my excitement was dampened by the scale. A Gunship depends on the minifigures, and this ship is much too big for them. LEGO has done a better job with the Razor Crest and the AT-AT recently.

Due to the lack of figures, she always seems a bit lifeless and cold. That’s a shame because the LEGO team has done a respectable job with the design and proportions. Although the doors are a bit weird in their suspension and the cockpit feels too small, it has great lines thanks to the clever use of Wedge, Plates, and the missile launchers are fun.

However, LEGO’s part portfolio was slightly outgunned by the constructions needs. With their shabby Tile 6 x 6, they are far behind the competition and not having carbon axles for the missile launchers does hurt.

In a smaller scale, with proper minifigures and more details, it would have been a better set.
