The Black Pearl from Reobrix is a set with many highs and lows. Visually, I like it, although its proportions and design are not particularly realistic. Nevertheless, it is better than its siblings Royal Sunshine and Pirate Ship, as well as the Black Pearl II from Mould King.
That Reobrix wanted to introduce some color contrast through golden cannons may not be everyone’s cup of tea, though. I especially like the sails, which are made of thick, printed plastic.
Unfortunately, the building process was not enjoyable. Although Reobrix has significantly improved instructions that no longer require a magnifying glass, the JIESTAR material has a very irregular clutch power, and you constantly have to use a rubber hammer. Besides, it’s not fun to almost only build with black pieces.
The poor accuracy of the parts also makes opening the ship not a great pleasure. The Black Pearl is more suitable as a display model and less for playing.
In summary, we have a stylish appearance, but limited building experience and playability. The price of approximately 140 euros as a China import is very good, but for the same money, you can also get the Black Pearl II from Mould King with significantly better material.
